working hard

First Christmas details will (hopefully) make an appearance here soon.  But, for the last week, some of us have been working hard :) I've been taking care of two babies (the 6 month old and his daddy).
{for the record- the week of Christmas is a terrible time to have surgery... we don't recommend it}

At lunch today, E-man and I took D something he could eat for lunch (he had surgery last week).  While we were there, E got to study some drawings and change orders that dad has been working with.  I think he decided that drool helps the lines on the drawings to be seen more easily...

He really enjoyed hanging out and studying on the desk, and was even sad to leave.  I think that he might beg to attend "take your kid to work day"  this year : )

Family

We had a friend take some pictures of our little family, and I am just in love with how they turned out...
 Here are some I couldn't resist sharing.

Luke 2:33-35 (father-Joseph, mother-Mary, child-Jesus)
 The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him.  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

O Christmas Tree

 Our big guy is really active and strong... he has been for as long as I can remember.  He actually held is head up when he was not even one week old. {and I hope this doesn't sound like a "my kid is better than your kid thing" because that is not the intention... just the back story on my little fella} As people are around him, most comment on how active he is and how much he likes to do.  And almost every time I hear a comment like this, I have followed back with... "yes he is, and I really I hope that he doesn't figure out how to crawl until after December when the Christmas tree comes down!"  Well, I probably should have kept my mouth shut... because my fear has come true.  E is not quite crawing, but in just a matter of the last 5 days, he has just about figured it out completely... and yes, the Christmas tree is up.  And yes... E-man is quite intrigued by the tree.
  And this morning... he scooted all by himself across the living room, to the pretty sparkly temptation...

and he was quite proud of himself...

Turned my back for just a second, and found him discovering a little snack...

And just because... here's my helper last night.  He was supervising the making of his favorite carrots and squash...

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

thanks

Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

A few months ago I found myself thinking that it would be great if Thanksgiving and Christmas were a little more spread out on the calendar... but now in the midst of the holidays, I find it really making sense.  While last week we all reflected on what we are thankful for, I realize it all comes back to Jesus.  I am thankful for the gift of Jesus!  Without Him, there would be nothing else to even begin to be thankful for.  And now we roll right on to Christmas... which again- is all about Jesus.  Crazy that the God of the universe was born... and was a drooling baby, a lot like the one I get to take care of every day.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,  and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Colossians 1:15-20

E enjoyed a feast of carrotts and rice cereal... while we all pigged out.
Here's our little turkey.

I was terrible and failed to pull out the camera during all of our family time... but I did snap this pic of E-man and his great grandpa right before we left this weekend.

Five Months

Our little (big) man is Five months old!

This month was the first time it was difficult to get a picture of him and the elephant... He is so curious about everything!  He is rolling and scooting around... not crawling yet, and I hope it stays that way until Christmas is over!

He weighs around 18 pounds and is 28 inches long.  (Dr. says that average for a 9 month old.  Ha!)

Here's how much he's grown!

And some outtakes...
sharing some kisses with elephant-

Trying to sit up by himself-

Oh wait- can't quite reach them-

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!  Ps. 107:1

Teething, rolling, and jumping, oh my!

We've had an eventful last few weeks.

Our little guy is teething... because I don't know much about cutting teeth, I'm not sure how much longer it will be before they {finally!} appear... but I do know... it must hurt!  E-man is a drooling, chewing machine.  We had a really really rough monday.  But luckily, he's been better the last few days.

D's guitar playing calmed him down... for a minute

Morning after the hard day, all smiles : ) thankful for a new day!

On the move... E-man has been rolling from one side to another for a while now, but just recently is he just flipping and scooting all over...

waking up from a nap, all tangled up and miles away from where he went to sleep is the norm now...

And bouncing.
boy does this kid like to bounce.

he's been bouncing himself to sleep a lot lately...

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Road Trip

We packed up for an early weekend last thursday and went up to Chattanooga. E-man did not so much enjoy the car ride there (bad for us), but he enjoyed himself while we were there!

he had his own bed...

watching the fish....

looking at the mountains...

learning to shoot a cannon....

eating his fingers....

A couple of firsts...

E-man has had a few "firsts" in the last week:

His first cereal
{he didn't really like it at first... he kept looking at us like "this is what I've been waiting for ?!"}

His first pumpkin
{I think you will be able to tell that he was a big fan of this occasion}

And this doesn't count as a first anything... I just liked the shirt : )

and check out this face... oh my : )

Biased

In my opinion {and I know it's slightly biased} there's nothing much cuter than this....

 E-man: enjoy these days... this is the only time in your life that it will be considered "cute" for you to have this many fat rolls : )

Monthly Pictures

{I've been a blog slacker for quite a while now... but early this morning, way before the sun was up, my little man's internal clock was off and I was up feeding him.  I started thinking about this neglected blog... and decided that I would try to keep this site up, with up to date Ethan info and pictures, because I know that our family and friends who can't seem him often would still like to see how much he is changing. And he is changing so fast!}

On the 14th of each month (or as close to it as I remember, ha) E-man and I attempt to take a picture with his elephant... so we can watch him grow!
